Peggy Miars Appointed to IOAS Board

(April 21, 2015) Eugene, OR. OMRI (the Organic Materials Review Institute) is pleased to announce that Executive Director/CEO Peggy Miars has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the International Organic Accreditation Service (IOAS). A member of the World Board for IFOAM-Organics International since October 2014, she represents IFOAM on the IOAS board. IOAS was founded by IFOAM in 1997 to provide accreditation for certification bodies that verify organic or sustainability-related standards. Fair and equitable accreditation is a key element to upholding integrity and supporting consumer trust in such claims. OMRI maintains ISO 17065 accreditation through a separate organization for its certification service that verifies organic claims for inputs.

Miars will serve a 3-year term as a member of the 8-person Board of Directors, providing oversight for the organization's policies and management. She brings nearly 20 years of nonprofit leadership and organic experience to her position on the IOAS board. "I'm looking forward to learning more about organics on the international level, and how accreditation ensures organic integrity around the world," said Miars. Other board members are from Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, South Africa, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
