OMRI Announces New Inspection Fees

(June 29, 2012) In the past, OMRI charged product suppliers for all direct inspection costs, plus 25% of costs not related to inspector travel, for all high nitrogen liquid fertilizer and for-cause inspections and sampling. A deposit was collected before the inspection, and OMRI billed or refunded additional money after the inspection costs were calculated.

In order to support more predictable inspection fees and scheduling for you, and to allow OMRI to send inspectors at the most appropriate time for each operation, OMRI will now change to a simpler flat fee billing system. The flat fee will support budget planning for product suppliers, and is also expected to facilitate faster inspection reviews.

The fees will be:

Liquid fertilizers with >3% nitrogen:

  • $3,500 annual fee for high nitrogen liquid fertilizer manufacturers + $1,500 per additional manufacturing location
  • $1,500 annual fee for companies that only repackage OMRI Listed high nitrogen liquid fertilizers

Other for-cause inspections (see section 2.4 of the OMRI Policy and Standards Manual).

  • $1,750 for a for-cause onsite inspection
  • $500 for a for-cause stream of commerce sample

Random surveillance

  • Costs covered by OMRI.

This new inspection fee system will go into effect on August 1, 2012.

We appreciate your patience during this transition. Please feel free to contact Inspections Coordinator Annie Amos  with any questions.
